Liverpool 'leading Lemar chase'

Reports in England claim that Liverpool are leading Premier League rivals Arsenal in the chase for Monaco winger Thomas Lemar, with the French international having turned down a new contract on Wednesday

English publication 'The Independet' reports that Jurgen Klopp's side remain in the driving seat after the 22-year-old put his suitors on red alert by rejecting a new contract with the Mongasque side on Wednesday.

Lemar looks set to move on in the summer, with Monaco set to cash in on yet another star they have nurtured from precocious talent to polished diamond.

Liverpool have plenty of money to spend following Philippe Coutinho's £142m move to Barcelona in January and are looking to reinvest those funds in an attacking player during the summer.

Arsenal are also known to hold an interest in the player, having seen a £90m Deadline Day move collapse last summer after the player decided to remain with his current employers.

However, following the January signings of Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Arsenal look set to focus on different areas in the summer, mainly a new centre-back, leaving the path clear for Liverpool to swoop.

The 'Reds' are thought to be Lemar's preferred destination,with it seeming highly unlikely that he will see out his contract in the principality.
